The difference between saline and silicone breast implants
Things you need to know when considering breast implants in Toronto
If you are considering breast augmentation surgery in Toronto you should know the difference in the two types of breast implants you may choose from.
Saline-filled breast implants are typically filled at the time of the cosmetic surgery with a saline solution, but in some patients the saline breast implants are slowly filled over a period of time. The biggest complaint that women have about the saline-filled breast implants is that they feel hard and a bit unnatural, however more advanced surgical techniques have lessened this issue over the past few years. These products are available for women over the age of 18 for breast augmentation or for women of any age for breast reconstruction. If your saline-filled breast implant ruptures the saline fluid will simply be absorbed into the body and you will need to have the ruptured implant removed.

Silicone breast implants are made from a pre-filled silicone gel. The gel is a thick fluid that usually feels much more natural than the saline type of breast implant. These breast implants look and feel more natural and are available to women age 22 and older for breast augmentation and for women of any age that are having a breast reconstruction surgery. If your silicone breast implant fails or leaks you will have to have it removed and a new one could probably be replaced in the same surgery. There is no evidence that silicone leads to breast cancer or any other major health concerns.
The major risks involved with a breast augmentation surgery in Toronto are breast pain, infections, implants leaking or rupturing, changes in nipple sensitivity or breast sensation and the possibility of needing further cosmetic surgeries. You have to remember that breast implants are not guaranteed for life and that they will need to be checked and/or corrected every few years. They can interfere with routine mammography scans and if you decide on silicone breast implants you will need routine MRI scans to make sure that they are not leaking or causing any problems in your body. You will have to choose between saline-filled breast implants and silicone breast implants after a well-informed consultation with your cosmetic surgeon.
