Success for Breast Augmentation Using Patients’ Own Fat

Once an obscure cosmetic surgery procedure in Toronto is now becoming a much more substantial
technique. Fat injections used for cosmetic breast augmentation is rapidly growing in popularity. It’s more of a hybrid cosmetic surgery than a traditional one that takes liposuction fat tissue from the patient and uses it for breast implants in the patient.

According to the ASPS Plastic Surgery Conference 2010 a recent study was conducted that examined 25 patients after a breast augmentation using liposuction fat taken from their own bodies. The study is attempting to validate that fat grafting for cosmetic breast augmentation is not only effective, but the effects are long-term and much safer than the synthetic forms of the same surgery. The patients wore an external tissue expanding device for roughly three weeks prior to the surgery to help make enough room for the injected fat tissue. The fat grafting procedure had as much as 650 cc per breast with as little as 250 cc. Each patient had photographs taken and other breast imaging tests conducted before and six months after the breast augmentation procedure. The study after six months demonstrated visible breast volume increases of an average of 250 cc per breast.

It was concluded that pre-expansion of the breasts is a critical variable in the success of the procedure and it must be performed in an effective amount of time to allow for the technique to properly work. It should be noted that this plastic surgery is not the same as a breast enlargement with implants according to leading cosmetic surgeons.
