Cosmetic Surgery and South Koreans’ dreams

If you think that cosmetic surgery in Toronto is commonplace you should make a visit to South Korea. A recent study has shown that approximately 80% of women in South Korea have had at least a double eyelid operation. Cosmetic surgery for them has become as normal as getting braces. These cosmetic procedures are not only popular in young adults and college age people, even teenagers that are still in high school are electing to get these popular plastic surgeries.

With the average age of most South Koreans having their first cosmetic surgery procedure at the age of 18, its no wonder that there is a beauty craze taking over the small Asian country. In fact, the craze has caught the attention of neighboring countries like China and Japan.

Talking to locals you will find countless people that have had these cosmetic surgeries. A young woman that we met said, “I’ve had my eyes and nose done, there’s no special feeling but there are some who have said I look more beautiful.”

This trend isn’t just for the ladies either, we found numerous men that have many different plastic surgeries such as liposuction, nose jobs and face lifts. There are many Chinese and Japanese men and women that we found all over South Korea coming to the country to get these cosmetic surgeries. Many Chinese men have had their cheekbones reshaped in South Korean cosmetic surgery clinics which are more like five-star hotels. Japanese get liposuction, but will rarely do any kind of facial augmentations.”

This trend isn’t going anywhere any time soon as hundreds, if not thousands of foreigners flock to South Korea to get these cosmetic surgeries.
