Breast Augmentation

You want beautiful sexy breasts, not just a simple breast enlargement. Dr. Jugenburg has studied breast augmentation techniques with some of the world’s most experienced breast surgeons, from whom he has learned the techniques and approaches to perform virtually every type of breast augmentation surgery and to deal with any potential challenge one may encounter during this surgery.

Breast Reconstruction

Dr. Jugenburg has sub-specialization in cancer reconstruction, and has trained at the world-renowned Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre in Manhattan. Upon returning to Toronto, Dr. Jugenburg has worked at the Toronto General Hospital and Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto, providing some of the most sophisticated care to his patients.

Breast Reduction

Dr. Jugenburg rarely uses the “inverted T” approach, but rather limits the incision to only the vertical component. This means a significant reduction in scar size. Additionally, the technique Dr. Jugenburg performs is associated with fewer complications than the traditional “inverted T” with inferior pedicle technique. As a result, the blood supply, sensation, and “bottoming out” (sagging of the breast) are all improved compared to the traditional approach.

Many different techniques, and many options. One is right for you.

What you need to know about Breast Augmentation Surgery

There are many different choices a surgeon makes when performing Breast Augmentation Surgery. Selecting the right implant, the right approach, and the right placement all affect what the final result will look like.

Preparation is 90% of the battle. The surgery itself is just an execution of a well thought-out plan.

You will arrive at our facility two hours prior to your surgery to allow our nurses to check you in, give you any medication that may be required prior to the surgery, and to allow you to relax in our pre-surgical room. Once the Operating Room is ready, Dr. Jugenburg will come into the pre-surgical room to speak to you. You will have a chance to ask any last minute questions that you may have. Dr. Jugenburg will then take pre-surgery pictures and mark your breasts. Next you will meet with our Anesthetist who will perform one last check to ensure you are safe to have the surgery. Finally, you will be taken to the Operating Room which has by now been set up for your breast augmentation surgery.

All our Breast Augmentation surgeries are performed under general anesthesia. You will be fully asleep and completely unaware of anything going on, you will not feel any pain. The anesthesia begins with the insertion of an intravenous line by the Anesthetist. Through this intravenous line you will be given induction medication to relax you and to put you to sleep. During the procedure you will receive liquid and any medications necessary through the IV line. The remainder of the General Anesthesia is through the gases that you will be inhaling. Our anesthetist use laryngeal masks, meaning that we do not need to place a tube into your throat unless absolutely necessary. The benefit of this is that you will not wake up with a scratchy throat as is common with endotracheal tubes (tubes in your throat). The anesthesia is maintained by the gas which you are inhaling. Once the breast augmentation surgery is finished, the anesthetist will turn off the gas and you will start to wake up over the next 60 seconds or so. During your sleep we have various sophisticated monitors on you to ensure that you are fully comfortable and completely unaware of any surgery.

Once you are asleep, your chest is cleaned with an antiseptic solution, and sterile drapes are placed all around to maintain and germ-free environment. We inject local freezing into the breast area so that when you wake up from the general anesthesia your breasts feel frozen and you have minimal discomfort. Next, a small cut is made (at the breast fold, around the areola, or through the armpit) to create a tunnel from the skin to the space under the breast. A ‘Breast Pocket’ is created which is an empty space either above or below the pectoral muscle into which the breast implant is inserted. The space is washed out with an antibiotic solution. Next, the breast implants are removed from their sterile packaging and inserted into the breast pocket. We use a Keller Funnel for “no-touch technique” which means that the implant goes from it’s sterile packaging directly into the sterile breast pocket. This limits the chance of a contamination and potential infectious complications after the surgery. It is just one of the countless measures we take to ensure you walk away with beautiful worry-free breast enlargement. Once the implants have been inserted, we check for symmetry and make any adjustments necessary to give you the best symmetry possible. Finally, we use absorbable sutures to close the cuts. Bandages are placed on your wounds, a surgical bra is put on you to hold the implants in place and we let the anesthetist know it’s time for you to wake up.

Recovery from Breast Augmentation

Once you are awake you will be transferred to the recovery room where a highly skilled nurse will monitor your vital signs as you wake up. Most women spend 30-45 minutes in the recovery room until they are fully awake and ready to leave our facility.

The Royal Treatment

Once you are ready to be discharged from the recovery room, we will transport you to one of the luxurious hotel rooms inside the Fairmont Royal York Hotel where you will be able to recover while enjoying the luxury of this spectacular hotel. We will give you a small care package of essentials to use during your overnight stay. The following morning you will come back to our clinic to be re-assessed and to have you bandages changed if necessary. Once you have been fully checked out, you will be able to leave and go home.

After your surgery, you will have follow up visit scheduled at our clinic at which time we will monitor your progress and healing. Follow up visits are very important and we ask that you do not miss them. They allow us to ensure that your breast scars heal beautifully and that the breast implants settle in just right.
